Cola Nuts Picture

Cola Nut, Cola nitida

The Cola nut is used in infusions in West Africa and areas of South America such as Brazil for a tonic and body stimulant. Constituents include caffeine, catechin, epicatechin, tannins, choline & betaine. Cola Nut is commonly used as a central nervous system stimulant, astringent, diuretic and anti depressive.

Cola nitida (Kolanut) has been used historically to increase the capacity for physical exertion and for enduring fatigue without food; stimulating a weak heart. Kola Nut was said to make ideas become clearer, thoughts flow more easily and clearly, and fatigue and drowsiness disappear. However, too much stimulative effect is said to cause thoughts to scatter.
